Did you try three Thunderbird 3 (Shredder b2pre)?
When it compares it with Thunderbird 2, it is comfortable.

Note: Three Thunderbird3(Shredder b2pre) , Lightning 1.0pre is the Nightly Builds that is not official release.
I recommend use in TB3. In TB2, there is the part which does not look beautiful.
(The tag color of the message header, the radio button of the radio pane)
It is not a bug.
The reason is because it uses the code which does not match TB2.
So that I make a theme look more beautiful….
